We were given the honor to sit down with Javier Baldarramos, the owner and host of the Austin-based Planet Texas Podcast.
After serving 19 years with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Javier felt it was time for a new career, so he and a friend started podcasting; his friend lost interest after some time, but Javier was hooked and decided to continue on his own. On his podcast, Javier takes a deep dive into Texas history, culture, landscapes, and industries unique to the state; he also covers broader topics such as current events, law enforcement, mental health, pop culture, and sports. Javier frequently invites expert guests and athletes to his podcast to offer unique perspectives and insights on the various topics of discussion covered.
When we asked what makes his podcast different than others, Javier stated, “I approach interviews with genuine interest in the people and subjects, rather than focusing on making money. It’s about enjoying what I do and sharing that passion with others.”
Javier holds a degree in criminal justice along with a certificate relating to the field of computer technology. When he’s not on air or researching a topic for an upcoming podcast, Javier volunteers at a local church in his area.
